Are you a virtual or in-person nutrition practice?

Do you accept insurance? How will I know how much it will cost?
Yes! Zamzam Nutrition accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Superior Healthplan, and Texas Medicaid. Before your initial consultation, you can verify your benefits by calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking about coverage for "Medical Nutrition Therapy." Insurance typically covers anywhere from 3-unlimited sessions! Most people do not have a co-pay and are covered at 100%. If you have specific questions regarding your coverage, please contact us for additional information.
What services do you offer?
One-on-one nutrition counseling, meal planning for individuals and families (upon request), nutrition education, grocery lists, and personalized nutrition guidance. You will get help developing short- and long-term goals to achieve success, sustain a healthy and balanced relationship with food/body, and guidance with grocery shopping, cooking, preparing meals, eating out and more.
What is the difference between a Nutritionist and a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?
While all Registered Dietitians are Nutritionists, not all Nutritionists are Registered Dietitians. A Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a qualified health professional who abides by a written code of ethics and scope of practice. RD's have a bachelor/graduate degree from an accredited university with coursework approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, completed +1200 hours of training through an accredited supervised internship, and passed a national examination administered by Commission of Dietetic Registration. RD's are credentialed professionals who provide Medical Nutrition Therapy. Their title is protected by law. Meanwhile, a Nutritionist has little or no education requirement. "Nutritionist" is not an accredited title and is not protected by law. Basically, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
The initial consultation can range from 45-75 minutes. The first meeting with a dietitian may be a bit intimidating for some, especially if you are struggling with your eating. Rest assured, Nora provides compassion, empathy, and a judgement-free zone for her patients. Come prepared to answer questions about your medical history, most recent labs, relationship with food, diet preferences, health goals, among others topics. During the initial session, we will explore and learn more about your nutrition, wellness, and overall health goals. This appointment is about getting to know YOU!
How often will we meet and how long are the follow-up appointments?
Nutrition Follow-Ups are 30-55 minutes. The number of appointments you need varies based on your nutrition needs and your progress, anywhere from weekly to bi-weekly, to monthly. Some individuals have continued to see Nora regularly for years because they like having the accountability.
What if my insurance does not cover visits with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?
